Title Registration (Lagfart)

Land Code Ch. 20

What does it mean?

Lagfart is the official registration of property ownership at Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority). When buying a house, plot, or other real property, you must apply for lagfart within three months. The cost is 1.5% of the purchase price plus a fixed administration fee.

Lagfart proves you are the rightful owner and is necessary for mortgaging the property. Without lagfart, you cannot take out mortgage deeds.
